Prague
& Writing Internet Links
Links you
might want to check out! A dozen or so people and places
I find interesting, fun, useful and more than
worth the quick click
People
Matya Dio: www.matyadio.com
is Matya's personal art and writing site. A Slovak lady of considerable
talent, married to an Italian and living in Spain.
Ken Nash: www.kennash.com
an entry to the weird and wonderful world of the cartoons and sketchbooks
of a primo satiric mind.
Someone's going to pick these up in syndication---maybe
New Yorker will replace some of the stupid and mundane strips that it
gives such press to.
www.rudemountain.com
another Ken Nash creation with Morgan Sowden, free online greeting cards,
the Microsoft of bad behavior and decorum.
Morgan Sowden: Check out what's goin' on
in Morgan's life and look into the incredibly talented industrial design
firm he represents at www.sowdendesign.com
Charlotte Freeman: www.mindspring.com/~charlottemf/index.html
links to daughter Charlotte's first novel Place Last Seen,
published by Picador.
Jim Fergus, author of One Thousand White Women
and The Sporting Road says, "Charlotte McGuinn Freeman is
an exceptionally gifted writer, to the point that it's almost impossible
to believe that Place Last Seen is a 'first' novel." Order
Place Last Seen
Peter Orner has written an absolutely great
first collection of short stories, titled Esther Stories. You can
read
the review in the New York Times and order
the book directly from Amazon.com for only $9.60. Take my word, you're
gonna love this book!
www.damer.com
the homepage of Bruce Damer, who does things in the computer-futures
world that are beyond the ken of ordinary mortals. Avatars (whatever they
are), virtual worlds, artificial intelligence (a particularly intriguing
thought in this day and age). Eclecticism taken to the nth degree---check
it out.
Prague
www.fortheloveofprague.com
the homepage of Gene Deitch, animator of world class talent who
somehow hung out in the Czech Republic for thirty years through the Communist
times, doing his stuff for Hollywood.
Gene is the formost expert on Prague and the
Czech Republic. His book of personal remembrances, For the Love
of Prague, is a must read. But beyond that, his is the essential site
for information about Prague, listing every conceivable point of interest
for the tourist or expat resident.
Writing
www.theonion.com
the website for satire at its best and a bundle of current event
mis-information in that genre.
xlibris.com
the place you used to be able to publish for free. It's not free anymore,
but a pretty good resource for self publishing and POD (Print On Demand).
