A Prayer for Rain

A reflective thought in quiet times
Progress not being quite so much
a matter of things accomplished
as fullfillments promised to myself
Unwrapped carefully like cherished gifts

A world of expectation washed away
Permission to drain the pond
New waters curl around these rocks
while slowly, ever so slowly
sharp edges worn and smoothed to fit

This gentle wearing away, takes time
It comes no faster than it comes
Leaving me to dream a while
with hopes the waters don't recede
and meanwhile pray for rain
