Tides

Two people I thought were gone
having coffee at The Globe
A third, just about to leave
waits for me at dinner

The constancy of removal
each to another place
away from here, away from me
for the best of reasons and the worst

Some for money, some for love
Some because they've both run out
The purpose of their coming
purposeless

Ten thousand on Atlantic flights
on any given day
Lost in thought and time warp
Arrivals and departures

The tides flow both ways
