Nature
Poems
Nature Poems?
Well, what are we to make of this sub-section?
I don't think I ever sat down to write a 'nature poem' and
yet much of my work is heavily influenced by the outdoors
and I've taken liberties with the genre.
- A Week of Rain
An endless battering against my 5th floor Prague window.
- Big Boats
Holding the wheel of a sailboat, or the reins of a thoroughbred
horse, are much the same sensation.
- Forgotten Coast
Which of us wouldn't like to paddle a forgotten coast?
- Getting Out
The nuts and bolts of breaking a late-season elk camp.
- The Least of Reasons
Why do we hunters hunt and what are the connections?
- Obligation in the Grass
We all have 'obligaions in the grass' and the lucky among
us honor the appointment.
- Scarlett O'Hara
Even this lovliest of cities has its bad-air days.
- Staying North
There are winter people and beach creatures. I am a man
who must have snowy winters to survive. Lead me not into
Sun City.
- Whispers in the Trees
I have hunted and walked in wilderness and heard my predecessor's
moccasined foot upon the path.
- Wintering
Even a winter-person has dreams of Madagascar.
- You Haven't Hunted Ducks
Well, maybe you have . . . how would I know? But there's
magic in it and if you've known flights at dawn and dusk,
you're luckier than most.
