Poem: Together By Agreement

Leaving neediness behind.

Together By Agreement

Are you needy?
I’m not into that right now,
wanting to be done like the dishes,
three or four times a week

Someone who comes for dinner,
drinks wine, values conversation,
stays to make love, knows passion
and wakes to know it once again

The luxury of leisured breakfast,
the desire to leave, pulled by her work,
valued as strongly as my own or more
Requiring time apart, together by agreement
